What photo booth software actually has to cover
Triggering a webcam is not the job. On a real booking, photo booth software has to hold four moments: preparation (templates, branding, consent, guest wording), capture (single shot, strip, GIF, boomerang, video guestbook), sharing (print, QR, email, gallery) and the aftermath (cloud sync, send log, reprints). Software that covers only two of them forces you to bolt on a second tool and pay for it.
Froozbooth puts all four in one license: the web dashboard to prepare, the Windows booth to run the night, the European cloud for everything that has to travel afterwards. How to start a photo booth rental business
Prepare online, run locally
Preparation happens from any computer: you create the event, lay out the templates, pick the capture modes and the sharing channels. One sync drops the configuration onto the booth.
During the event, capture, compositing, green screen keying, printing and the QR screen all run locally. The venue Wi-Fi is no longer on the critical path: whatever has to be uploaded waits in a queue and leaves on its own once the connection is back. AI portraits, if you turn them on, are the only feature that needs a connection; if it drops, the original photo goes to print. Green screen photo booth
- The configuration is loaded before the event, not during it.
- Captures are written to the booth disk first.
- Failed sends stay queued and retry by themselves.
- A disk gauge shows how many sessions the machine can still hold.
What the license includes
- Two Windows machines paired to the same account
- Unlimited events and templates
- Local printing: copies, per-event limits, reprints
- Green screen keying, processed in the booth
- QR, email and a public gallery you can lock with a code
- Cloud sync, with photos hosted in Paris (AWS eu-west-3)
- Guest interface in 19 languages
- Updates included
No separate cloud module, no per-booth surcharge: sharing channels and the gallery are part of the license from day one. Only AI portraits are paid separately, per portrait, with prepaid credits and no subscription. AI photo booth software
Hardware: what works, and what does not
On the camera side, any webcam Windows recognizes will work, and Canon and Nikon DSLRs are driven natively. Other brands go through the manufacturer webcam utility or a capture card: outside Canon and Nikon, there is no native camera control.
On the printing side, there is no approved-model list: if Windows prints, the booth prints, including the DNP and Citizen dye-sublimation printers used in events. A test pattern checks the framing before the doors open.
On the machine side, you need a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC: a laptop, a mini PC or a Windows tablet. There is no macOS or Linux build. An iPhone and iPad app is in the works, with the same license. DSLR photo booth software for Canon and Nikon: cameras and printers that work
Two machines, one license
The license covers two workstations paired at the same time: the booth in the room and the backup in the van, or two rooms on the same night. You pay by the month, by the year or once for life, it is up to you: €14 a month, €139 a year, or €349 once with no subscription. All three plans unlock exactly the same features.
The trial runs for 15 days and asks for no card. During the trial, photos carry a watermark that disappears as soon as you pick a plan. Best photo booth software 2026: the comparison
International events and GDPR
The guest interface is translated into 19 languages, including French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German, and the language is picked per event: a bilingual wedding does not force your guests into English. Selfie booth and photo kiosk software
Photos and configurations are hosted in Paris (AWS eu-west-3). The sharing log masks addresses enough that it cannot be turned into a mailing list, and the public gallery can be protected with a code.
Frequently asked questions
What is photo booth software?
It is the software running on the booth itself: it shows the guest screen, triggers the camera, composites the shot onto a template, sends the print and offers sharing by QR or email. With Froozbooth it is driven from a web dashboard where the rental company prepares events in advance.
Does the software work without an internet connection?
Yes, once the configuration has been synced. Capture, compositing, green screen keying, printing and the QR screen all run locally. Only emails and the cloud upload wait for the network, and they retry automatically once it is back. AI portraits are the exception: they need a connection, and the booth prints the original photo without one.
Do I need a DSLR, or is a webcam enough?
Both work. A webcam recognized by Windows is enough to start; a Canon or Nikon DSLR driven directly by the booth gives a better result in low light. Other brands go through their own webcam utility or a capture card.
How much does the software cost?
From €139 a year, or €14 a month. If you would rather not subscribe, the lifetime license is €349, paid once. All three plans include two machines and the same features, with no add-on modules; only AI portraits are paid separately, with prepaid credits. A monthly or yearly plan that you cancel locks the booths at the end of the paid period; the lifetime license never expires. The booth activates online once: a lifetime license then runs for up to 10 years without connecting, while a monthly or yearly plan must connect at least once every 7 days. Cloud+, at €29 a year, or €2.90 a month with a monthly license, is optional at any number of booths. For a bigger fleet, each extra booth is €59 a year, or €149 once with the lifetime license, up to 10 machines. The 15-day trial asks for no credit card.
Can I use it outside Europe?
Yes. The guest interface exists in 19 languages; the dashboard and the booth cockpit are in French. The license is billed in euros, and photos stay hosted in Europe, in Paris.
Is there free photo booth software?
Yes, mostly open-source projects meant for DIY booths: camera control, printing, sharing and support are then up to you. Froozbooth is not free, but it can be tried for 15 days with no credit card, on two machines; photos carry a watermark until you pick a plan. After that, it costs €14 a month, €139 a year or €349 once.
What should I look for in photo booth software for a rental business?
Look for software that lets you prepare each event away from the booth, keeps working when the venue Wi-Fi drops, gives your client a gallery afterwards and covers a backup booth. Also check native control of your camera brand, direct printing to dye-sub printers, and whether QR, email and gallery are included or sold as separate modules. Froozbooth was built around these points: events prepared online, a Windows booth that runs offline, a gallery hosted in Europe and two machines per license.
Can I set up an event without being at the booth?
Yes. With Froozbooth you prepare the event in a web dashboard that opens in any browser: templates, capture modes, sharing channels and print limits. Before you leave, the booth downloads the whole configuration in one sync and reports the event as “synchronisé et activé”. You can also send your client a link so they pick their template and type in their names themselves.
What changes from 3 booths with Froozbooth?
The price and the fleet tools. Two machines cost €14 a month, €139 a year or €349 once. Each extra booth adds €59 a year, or €149 once with the lifetime license, up to 10 machines. From 3 booths, you also get fleet planning, live booth monitoring, the remote, a gallery under your own brand with no Froozbooth mention, messages to the client and the mosaic photo. Cloud+ stays an optional add-on at any number of booths, at €29 a year, or €2.90 a month with a monthly license. Beyond 10 machines, the Réseau plan is on quote.
What does Cloud+ add?
Cloud+ adds 100 GB of online storage, email sent from your own domain and remote booth controls. With it you can pause, resume or restart a booth and reprint its last photo from the dashboard; booth status stays visible without it. It costs €29 a year at any number of booths, or €2.90 a month with a monthly license, and can be canceled anytime.
Is there a limit on the number of events or photos?
There is no limit on events or templates, on any Froozbooth plan. Online storage is 10 GB, plus 100 GB with Cloud+; an uploaded 4x6 photo weighs about 0.5 to 1 MB, so 10 GB holds several thousand, fewer with videos. If online storage fills up, the booths keep shooting and printing, and photos wait on the PC until there is room.
Is there customer support, and in which language?
Yes. Froozbooth support answers by email and by phone in English, and you talk directly to the people who build the software, with a reply within 1 to 2 business days. A help center also covers installation, the day before the event and the usual problems on the night. The dashboard and the booth cockpit are in French; the guest screen comes in 19 languages.
