A LumaBooth alternative for Windows-based rental companies

LumaBooth is a well-regarded iPad app. If your fleet is built around Windows PCs, Canon or Nikon DSLRs and dye-sub printers, and you want to choose how you pay (monthly, yearly or once for life), with photos hosted in Europe, Froozbooth is built for exactly that case.

Why rental companies look for a LumaBooth alternative

Three reasons come back again and again. Platform first: LumaBooth runs on iPad, while many booths are built around a Windows PC, a Canon or Nikon DSLR and a dye-sublimation printer. Cost next: cloud and sharing features are often billed per module or per booth, which makes the yearly budget hard to quote up front. Hosting last: a European operator has to be able to tell clients where their guests’ photos are stored.

The basic fotoShare Cloud plan comes with it; the Plus and Business plans and the LumaShare sharing station ($7.99 a month) are extra. Over three years, LumaBooth for Windows billed yearly comes to about $612; Froozbooth costs €417 on the yearly plan, or €349 once.

What Froozbooth does not do

Better said before the trial than after. The booth runs on Windows today: there is no macOS or Linux build, and the iPhone and iPad app is still in the works. Native DSLR control is limited to Canon and Nikon. There is no automatic import of your LumaBooth projects: templates are rebuilt once in the web editor. And the license covers two simultaneous machines; beyond that, you add booths, up to 10 machines.

Migrating from LumaBooth

  • Create an account and start the 15-day trial, no card required.
  • Rebuild your templates in the web editor: the slots-plus-overlay logic is close to what you already know.
  • Install the Windows booth next to your existing hardware and pair it with the account.
  • Run one sync, then a full test event (capture, print, QR, email) before your next booking.

You keep your hardware: no exclusivity on the camera body, the enclosure or the printer.

Frequently asked questions

Does Froozbooth run on iPad like LumaBooth?

Not yet. The Froozbooth booth runs today on a Windows 10 / 11 PC or tablet. An iPhone and iPad app is in the works, with the same license, and a beta will open first to rental companies who sign up. The preparation dashboard already opens in any browser, tablets included.

Can I import my LumaBooth templates?

There is no automatic import of proprietary projects. Templates are rebuilt once in the web editor, using the same slot-and-overlay logic.

Are cloud and gallery billed as extras?

No. Cloud sync, the public gallery, QR and email are part of the license, exactly like printing, in all three plans, with 10 GB of online storage. Cloud+, optional at €29 a year, or €2.90 a month with a monthly license, adds 100 GB, email from your own domain and remote booth controls.

Where are the photos hosted?

In Paris, on AWS eu-west-3, under GDPR. The public gallery can be locked with a code.

How many booths can I run?

Two Windows workstations paired to the same account at the same time, included in the license: the booth in the room and the backup, or two rooms on the same night. Beyond that, each extra booth is €59 a year, up to 10 machines.

How much does LumaBooth cost?

LumaBooth is sold by subscription. Its Windows edition, formerly dslrBooth, has listed about $17 a month billed yearly (roughly $204 a year) or $49.99 month to month since March 2026. iPad plans and paid modules vary, so check the vendor’s current pricing. Froozbooth costs €139 a year or €14 a month for two machines, or €349 once for life, with the gallery included.

What are the best LumaBooth alternatives?

It depends on what your booth is built on. On iPad, the other main option is Simple Booth; on a Windows PC, people usually compare Froozbooth, Sparkbooth, BoothLedger and LumaBooth’s own Windows edition (formerly dslrBooth). Froozbooth is the one built for rental companies: two machines per license, online event prep and a gallery hosted in Paris, from €139 a year or €349 once.

Is there a LumaBooth alternative without a subscription?

Yes. Froozbooth offers a lifetime license at €349, paid once, that never expires, next to its €14 monthly and €139 yearly plans, all with the same features and two machines. Sparkbooth is also sold once ($149, or $189 for the DSLR edition), but without a Europe-hosted gallery or online event prep. LumaBooth itself is sold by subscription.

Does LumaBooth have a Windows version?

Yes. dslrBooth is now called LumaBooth for Windows, and since version 8 (March 2026) it is sold by subscription only: about $17 a month billed yearly or $49.99 month to month, with two devices. Froozbooth is a Windows alternative to it: €139 a year or €349 once for two machines, with gallery, QR and email included. Check LumaBooth’s current pricing before you compare.

Is LumaBooth or Froozbooth better for a DSLR booth?

For a Canon or Nikon DSLR on a Windows PC, Froozbooth: it controls both natively (live view, focus during the countdown, shutter fired by the booth) in every plan. In our comparison, LumaBooth on iPad has no native DSLR control; its Windows edition, formerly dslrBooth, does. For other camera brands, Froozbooth goes through the manufacturer webcam utility or a capture card.

When is LumaBooth a better choice than Froozbooth?

When your booth has to be an iPad today. LumaBooth is a well-regarded iPad app with AI effects; Froozbooth runs on Windows 10 / 11 today, with green screen and AI portraits paid per portrait, and its iPhone and iPad app is still in the works. If your fleet is Windows PCs with Canon or Nikon DSLRs and dye-sub printers, Froozbooth is built for exactly that case.

How do I switch from LumaBooth to Froozbooth?

Start the 15-day trial (no credit card), rebuild your templates once in the web editor, then install the Windows booth next to your existing hardware and pair it with your account. Run one sync and a full test event (capture, print, QR, email) before your next booking. You keep your camera, your enclosure and your printer.
