Desktop software versus online preparation
With classic desktop software, the configuration lives on the machine: you set the booth up in front of the booth, often the night before, sometimes on site. With Froozbooth the event is prepared from any computer (templates, guest wording, sharing channels, print limits), and one sync drops the configuration onto the workstation.
That changes two concrete things: an assistant can prepare an event while another booth is out on a booking, and the backup booth leaves with exactly the same configuration, with no manual setup.

Again, the right-hand column stays cautious: offers move. dslrBooth, now called LumaBooth for Windows, has been subscription-only since version 8 (March 2026): about $17 a month billed yearly (roughly $204 a year) or $49.99 month to month, with two devices included and no lifetime license anymore. Froozbooth costs €139 a year for two machines, or €349 once instead of a subscription that never ends. Check their current pricing before you decide.
What does not change: your hardware
A Canon or Nikon DSLR driven natively or a webcam recognized by Windows, a printer already installed on the machine including DNP and Citizen dye-sub units: you keep the fleet you have. Other camera bodies go through the manufacturer webcam utility or a capture card.
Migrating from dslrBooth
- Start the 15-day trial, no credit card.
- Rebuild your templates in the web editor and check how they come out on paper.
- Install the Windows booth on the existing machine and pair it with the account.
- Run one full test event: capture, print, QR, email, gallery.
There is no automatic project import: the configuration is rebuilt once, online, then reused from one event to the next.
Limits worth knowing before the trial
The booth is a Windows workstation: no macOS, no Linux, and no iPad until the iPhone and iPad app in the works is released. Native DSLR control is limited to Canon and Nikon. The license covers two simultaneous machines; beyond that, you add booths, up to 10 machines. If any of those three is a blocker for you, better to know now.
Frequently asked questions
Can Froozbooth replace dslrBooth on the same PC?
Yes. The Froozbooth booth installs on a Windows 10 or 11 PC that is already set up, next to your camera and your printer. Nothing forces you to uninstall the other software during the trial.
Is DSLR control equivalent?
For Canon and Nikon bodies, control is native: live view, focus during the countdown, shutter fired by the booth. For other brands there is no native control: you go through the manufacturer webcam utility or a capture card.
Do I need one license per booth?
No. One license covers two Windows workstations paired at the same time.
Can I work offline like with desktop software?
Yes. After one sync, the booth captures, composites, prints and shows the QR with no network. Emails and the cloud upload resume on their own when the connection returns.
How much is the license?
€139 a year or €14 a month, or €349 once for a lifetime license with no subscription. Every plan includes two machines, cloud and sharing. A canceled monthly or yearly plan locks the booths at the end of the paid period; the lifetime license never expires. The booth activates online once: a lifetime license then runs for up to 10 years without connecting, while a monthly or yearly plan must connect at least once every 7 days. Cloud+, at €29 a year, or €2.90 a month with a monthly license, is optional. The trial runs 15 days and asks for no card.
How much does dslrBooth cost in 2026?
dslrBooth, now called LumaBooth for Windows, costs about $17 a month billed yearly (roughly $204 a year) or $49.99 month to month, with two devices included. Cloud modules come on top. Prices change, so check their current pricing page; Froozbooth costs €139 a year or €349 once for two machines, with gallery, QR and email included.
Can I still buy a lifetime dslrBooth license?
No. Since version 8 (March 2026), dslrBooth has been sold by subscription only, with no lifetime license anymore. If you want to pay once, Froozbooth has a €349 lifetime license that never expires, with two machines and updates included. The booth activates online once, then runs with no network, for up to 10 years without connecting.
What does dslrBooth cost over three years compared with Froozbooth?
About $612 for dslrBooth at its yearly rate (roughly $204 a year), for two devices, with cloud modules extra. Froozbooth costs €417 over three years on the yearly plan, or €349 once with the lifetime license, with two machines and the gallery included. With the lifetime license, only the optional Cloud+, at €29 a year, is billed after that.
Can I prepare events remotely instead of on the booth PC?
Yes, with Froozbooth. Templates, guest wording, sharing channels and print limits are set in a web dashboard from any computer, and one sync drops the configuration onto the booth. With classic desktop software, the configuration lives on the machine; here, an assistant can prepare an event while another booth is out on a booking, and the backup booth leaves with exactly the same setup.
When should I stay with dslrBooth?
If you control a Sony camera natively, dslrBooth remains a good fit: Froozbooth controls only Canon and Nikon natively. Both offer AI effects; Froozbooth makes AI portraits paid per portrait with prepaid credits, and includes green screen in every plan. For a Canon or Nikon booth that needs a gallery included and a lifetime option, Froozbooth is the cheaper choice.
Does Froozbooth have a monthly plan like dslrBooth?
Yes. Froozbooth costs €14 a month with no commitment, versus $49.99 month to month listed for dslrBooth, and both cover two machines. If you cancel, your Froozbooth booths lock at the end of the paid period. The yearly plan (€139, or €11.58 a month) and the €349 lifetime license include exactly the same features.
